Chinese producers on Tuesday raised lithium carbonate price by 1,000 yuan per tonne, after the industry leader Ganfeng Lithium (002460.SZ) had lately raised lithium carbonate price by 5,000 yuan/tonne, or 10 percent, to 60,000 yuan/tonne.
The lithium carbonate price has increased about 30 percent so far since the beginning of this year, boosted by a rising popularity of new energy cars.
On September 15, global leading lithium carbonate producer FMC announced to raise prices of lithium products by 15 percent around the world, including lithium carbonate, lithium chloride and lithium hydrate.
The move was expected to boost the Chinese lithium carbonate market, which is under a mildly tight supply. The lithium carbonate price was once up to 80,000 yuan/tonne under a historical record high.
In January-September, production and sales of new energy cars in China grew 200 percent and 230 percent, respectively, compared to a 0.3 percent growth in the entire car sale.
