Chinese government departments convened a work forum on the promotion and application of steel structure late last week in Beijing, with participating delegates from listed steelmakers such as Ma Steel (600808.SH) and Wugang (600005.SH), China Securities News reported on Monday.
Participants into the forum agreed to promote demonstrations of steel structure, improve the standard system and work out supporting policies for the steel structure development. Also, they plan to form a mechanism for R&D cooperation between the upstream and the downstream and to enhance public awareness of steel structure.
The forum was organized by the Raw Material Department under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Energy Conservation and Science and Technology Department under the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. Currently, steel structure accounts for about 6 percent of buildings in China, and less than 1 percent among bridges in China.
