China will gradually stop the use of highly toxic farm chemicals in the upcoming years, said an official quoted by the Xinhua-run cnstock.com on Tuesday.

China aims to drop chemicals of bromomethane and endosulfan in agricultural production by 2019, said Chen Youquan, an official with the Ministry of Agriculture, at a forum held before the AgroCheEx scheduled for Oct. 28-30.

By 2020, the country aims to stop the use of aldicarb, carbofuran, phorate and omethoate, and further eliminate other highly toxic farm chemicals beyond 2020. China consumed 1.83 million tonnes of farm chemicals in 2013, with an average use per unit area 2.3 times that of the United States and twice that of European Union. In a breakdown, China's insecticide use per unit area was 14.7 times that of the U.S. in 2013.
