SHANGHAI, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Organizers have begun soliciting global design schemes for a new 480-meter-tall building planned on the North Bund in Shanghai.

According to the announcement on Friday, nine candidates will be qualified to submit schemes. The candidates will include at least three organizations that have designed super high-rise buildings over 300 meters tall for the top 20 global cities. The organizers will select four from nine schemes for further improvement before choosing the final one.

The list of the nine candidates will be released in late August and the final plan determined by the end of this year.

The new building on the west of Huangpu River and north of Suzhou River is planned for commercial and office use with an above-ground floor area of about 350,000 square meters.

The building will drive the development of high-end industries in Shanghai and house the headquarters of global enterprises.
