China's average Internet download speed reached 6.11 Mbps in the second quarter of 2015, according to a report jointly released by Wangsu Science and Technology Co., Ltd. and a research institute under the Peking University.

The report was made on the basis of data collected by Wangsu's over 500 CDN nodes and over 30,000 servers nationwide, which observed 259 million independent IP addresses in the period, the People's Posts and Telecommunications News reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, the proportion of below-2Mbps Internet accesses used by Chinese netizens declined 2.34 percentage points in the three months, comparing to that for the first quarter of this year.

The proportion of 2Mbps-4Mbps accesses dropped about one percentage point, the proportion of 4Mbps-10Mbps access increased 2.83 percentage points, and the proportion of above-10Mbps accesses rose 0.3 percentage point.

Meanwhile, the report disclosed that 57.64 percent of Chinese netizens were from east China in the period, in which the population accounts for about 41.48 percent of China's total.

The netizen proportion in central China and west China were 23.45 percent and 18.91 percent respectively, comparing to 31.49 percent and 27.03 percent of population proportions.
