Traffic of China's mobile Internet access tops 420-mln-gigabit

The traffic of mobile Internet access in China topped 420 million gigabits in October, hitting a new record high, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Business operation of China's three basic telecom operators, namely China Mobile (CHL.NYSE; 00941.HK), China Telecom (CHA.NYSE; 00728.HK) and China Unicom (CHU.NYSE; 00762.HK; 600050.SH), was stable in October, but the business revenues grew slower as they stopped zeroing out remaining data volume of mobile service subscribers.

Statistics show that the telecom business volumes of the three carriers totaled 207.4 billion yuan in October, up 28.7 percent year on year; but the business revenue dropped 6.5 percent to 83.33 billion yuan.

Because of fast growing 4G mobile service subscribers and declining charges on the services, the traffic of mobile Internet access topped 420 million gigabits in October, hitting a new record high.

The total traffic of mobile Internet access in the first 10 months of this year reached 3.21 billion gigabits, up 100.2 percent year on year.
