China should carry out the Blue Carbon Initiative, enhance marine scientific and technological cooperation with international society in a bid to promote the construction of maritime Silk Road, held analysts in south China's Guangxi. Jiao Nianzhi, a professor with Xiamen University, noted that most countries along the route of 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road belong to developing countries, which face energy saving and marine environmental pollution problems.

Blue Carbon Initiative provides a solution and strengthens China's influence on those countries. Lu Jianren, chief researcher with China-ASEAN Research Institute of Guangxi University, said that as China boasts outstanding advantages in marine science and technology, we should encourage our technological personnel to conduct extensive cooperation with ASEAN and India.

Blue Carbon Initiative is a coordinated global program focused on mitigating climate change through the conservation and restoration of coastal and marine ecosystems. Blue carbon is the carbon stored in coastal and marine ecosystems.
