China reveals timetable for commercial operation of 5G network

Chinese authorities unveiled a timetable for launching the commercial operation of 5G network recently, China Securities Journal reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, China planned to launch a commercial operation of 5G network as early as 2020.

Besides, the country will conduct the phase 2 test of 5G technology in 2017 and to start 5G network construction in 2019 China's 5G basic R&D and testing will be implemented between 2016 and 2018.

It will be divided into three stages, including 5G key technology testing, 5G technical verification and 5G system verification, said Zhang Feng, chief engineer of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

China was expected to join hands with other countries to roll out the first version of 5G standards in 2018, which will lay a foundation for the launch of 5G commercial use, said Huang Yuhong, vice president of the China Mobile Research Institute.

Insiders noted that 5G is set to boost the development of many emerging industries, including big data, cloud computing, smart home and unmanned aerial vehicle.
