The Beidou Navigation Satellite products and services certification pilot project has started, as reported by the Economic Information Daily on Monday.
The Beidou Navigation Satellite System is a global satellite navigation system independently constructed and operated by China. China is developing its high technology industry based on the Beidou Navigation Satellite System.
The pilot project will start the certification of its core products, such as new products, board, module, antenna, receiver and chips, and will expand the accreditation to the whole industrial chain, including corollary equipment, information systems, and operations management services.
The pilot project will promote the construction of the Beidou Navigation Satellite product certification system and the overall quality of the Beidou products. The project will also standardize the management of the Beidou Navigation Satellite industry and accelerate the industrialization of the Beidou Navigation Satellite System.
At present, the Beidou Navigation System has much space to be cultivated and popularized in the fields of communication, railways, surveying, and mapping. But China hasn’t built the relevant certification system and lacks the authorized certification organizations, which has caused the Beidou standard system as well as the product development system to be incomplete.
Therefore, the pilot project will build the Beidou monitoring and certification system quickly and effectively and clear away the barriers to the development of the Beidou Navigation Satellite System and the Chinese satellite navigation industry.
Currently, the Chinese satellite navigation industry is developing with a sound momentum. The Beidou Navigation Satellite System has been widely used in various industries, such as transportation, maritime affairs, electricity, civil administration, meteorology, and fishery.
In 2017, the total output value of the Chinese satellite navigation and location-based service industry had reached RMB 255 billion, which had increased by 20.4 percent, when compared with the same number in 2016. An insider estimated that the growth rate of the industry in 2018 would maintain over 20 percent so that the output value will reach RMB 300 billion.
The number of institutional organizations in the satellite navigation and location-based service industry has been maintained at 14,000, which includes 58 public companies. The total number of employees in this industry exceeds 500,000.
