Samsung Electronics, the South Korean tech giant, said Thursday that it will release Galaxy Note 9 smartphone in China later this month.

The new Samsung smartphone will be available among Chinese consumers from Aug. 31. Samsung held a showcase event in Shanghai a day earlier to promote the device, according to the press release from the South Korean firm.

Koh Dong-jin, who is in charge of Samsung's mobile business, said at the event that Samsung was making efforts to listen to what Chinese consumers want in design, sales and marketing in order to regain trust of Chinese consumers.

Samsung's market share in China, the world's biggest consumer market, was on the decline amid a stiff competition with Chinese manufacturers.

According to industry tracker Strategy Analytics, Samsung shipped 800,000 smartphones to the Chinese market in the April-June quarter, accounting for 0.8 percent of the total in China.

It was down from 2.7 percent in market share tallied by Samsung in the same quarter of last year. The South Korean company recorded 20 percent of market share in 2013 in China.
