BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) -- China's mobile communications sector posted a surging growth of diversified terminal devices with integrated functions in the first half of 2019, said a report released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).

A total of 711 new models of mobile communications terminals were launched in H1, with mobile phones accounting for 34.6 percent, according to the report.

The number of non-phone new device models increased 16.3 percent year on year to 465 in the period, with wireless vehicle-mounted terminals rising 18.3 percent.

With the fast development of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, more mobile communications terminals were applied in the fields of intelligent Internet-connected vehicles, smart home appliances and smart city development, said the report.

In H1, 137 new Narrow Band IoT terminal device models were put on the market, including smoke alarms, smart tools, door locks and position trackers, adding up to a total of 250 new products since 2018.

Meanwhile, the shipments of multimedia navigators and positioning devices reported a year-on-year growth of 87 percent and over 100 percent, respectively.

As China has granted 5G licenses for commercial use, the CAICT predicted that the shipment of 5G phones will maintain growth amid lower mobile phone shipments.
