The report of 16 key tech-challenges to the development of China's electronic information engineering was drafted to boost the country's high-quality development in the sector, according to the CAE.
The 16 fields are micro-electronics and optoelectronics, optical engineering, sensing, measurement and instrument, electromagnetic space, network and communication, cybersecurity, hydroacoustic engineering, electromagnetic field and electromagnetic environment effects, control, cognition, computer system and software, computer application, industrial software system, significant emergency response and new generation infrastructure.
The coronavirus pandemic is profoundly shifting the global political economy and social structure. The information technology sector should move faster as the strategic, foundational and leading industry which concerns a country's economy and people's livelihoods, said Chen Zuoning, academician and deputy head of the CAE.
China should generate the power of information technologies in boosting the socio-economic development, to upgrade the country's digital economy and information governance, she added.
In the burgeoning new generation infrastructure field, China is stepping up constructing facilities of the representative technologies such as 5G, data center, industrial internet, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence(AI). And they are playing strategic and pioneering roles in sustaining the high-quality socio-economical development in and after the pandemic, according to the team of the report.
Alongside the speeding up and expanding scale of these constructions, the field is facing significant challenges in technology collaboration, large scale networking, innovation in application mode, key-tech support, etc.. China has decided to accelerate progress in the 5G network, data centers and other new-generation infrastructure.
By the end of February, China had established 164,000 5G base stations nationwide. And the coverage of the 5G network will be further expanded, with the completion of more than 600,000 stations across the country by the end of 2020, said statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Information.
Since 2014, the information and electronic engineering department under the CAE started releasing the annual reports on the technology development on China's electronic information engineering sector, with reports on key challenges and latest trends respectively in the first and second half-year.
