Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba on Thursday opened a section dedicated to Dutch products on its Tmall Global marketplace.
At a launch ceremony for "Holland Country Pavilion" during the visit to China by a delegation of Dutch companies and government officials as part of the visit of Dutch King Willem-Alexander, Alibaba signed agreements with major Dutch retailers including Royal Ahold, Albert Heijn and Attent.
Alibaba Chairman Jack Ma said the launch just ahead of China's Nov. 11 online shopping extravaganza offers both Chinese consumers and Dutch merchants opportunities.
He hopes it can help small Dutch firms sell more flowers and other quality goods. Increasing numbers of Chinese consumers are shopping online and they are paying more and more attention to quality, said Hanneke Faber, president of Royal Ahold's online business.
"Holland Country Pavilion" is the 13th home for exports from a single country that Tmall Global has opened since May. Other countries including the Republic of Korea, the United States, Britain, France and Australia. They will offer millions of products during the Nov. 11 promotion.
Alibaba travel unit Alitrip also agreed with KLM and the Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions to promote travel to Holland and launch an online flight ticket office targeting Chinese tourists.
