China's major power grid operator the State Grid would make great changes to its current grid structure by forming two major grid networks, the eastern grid and the western grid by 2020 through interconnection and integration of current northern China grid, central grid, east China grid, northeast China grid and northwest China grid, according to the company's fourth quarter work conference.
The two grid networks would then form one synchronous network by 2025 through synchronous interconnection, the company said, according to a report by China Business News on Thursday.
This could help solve the power utilization problem in central and western China regions while meet power demand in energy intensive southeastern China's coastal regions, and thus restrict fossil fuel power generation expansion, according to the company.
