China's PV companies are getting out of downturn and exploring new opportunities in markets such as Africa, according to China Africa Industrial Forum (CAIF).
The forum saw African countries such as South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Kenya come with new energy projects for cooperation as well as with intent for PV product procurement.
In fact, there are a few Chinese PV companies that have already set foot on the African market. Wuxi Suntech, for example, entered South Africa market early in 2011 and co-developed a 100MW PV power project with Siemens, according to Luo Xin, CEO with Wuxi Suntech's parent company Shunfeng International Clean Energy.
South Africa now has approximately 1GW PV constructed power stations, in which Suntech installations account for more than 10 percent, said Luo.
African market features big power supply gap and great potential for solar PV development, said Luo, noting that the market's potential PV installation is estimated to be more than 11GW.
