Construction on the No.5 power generating unit of Tianwan nuclear power plant in Jiangsu Province lately has started construction, said China National Nuclear Power Co., Ltd (CNNP).
Tianwan nuclear power plant is designed to build eight 1-million-kilowatt power generating units. So far, the No.1 and No.2 generating units are in commercial run, and the No.3, No.4, and No.5 units are under construction.
Construction on the No.6 unit has been approved by the State Council. After the eight units of Tianwan nuclear power plant enter operation, it would fulfill newly added power demand in Jiangsu and even the entire east China area.
The year of 2015 marked a crucial year for the resumption of nuclear power construction in China. Construction of eight generation units have been nodded by the State Council in 2015, including the No.5 and No.6 units of Hongyanhe nuclear power plant, No.5 and No.6 units of Fuqing nuclear power plant, No.3 and No.4 units of Fangchenggang nuclear power plant, and No.5 and No.6 units of Tianwan nuclear power plants. Construction of six units has started.
