One year after China kicked off construction on Fuqing No.5 nuclear generating unit in Fujian Province, the first Hualong One nuclear reactor in the world, on May 7 in 2015, Hualong One reactor has driven overall transformation of China's manufacturing industry.

So far, construction of Fuqing No.5 generating unit has entered peak period of civil engineering of the reactor island. The Fuqing No.6 generating unit, another nuclear reactor adopting Hualong One technology, has finished cementing of the raft foundation.

In the past year, construction on Fuqing No.5 and No.6 units has used 55,000 tonnes of concrete iron, and cemented more than 250,000 cubic meters of concrete, said Chen Guocai, deputy general manager with Fujian Fuqing Nuclear Power Co., Ltd.

Apart from Fuqing No.5 and No.6 units, the No.3 and No.4 units of Fangchenggang nuclear power station in Guangxi also adopted Hualong One technology. Construction on Fangchenggang No.3 unit started from December 24, 2015.

Construction of Hualong One reactors is expected to further boost domestic demand for steel and cement, and at the same time to drive up overall transformation of China's manufacturing industry, noted Chen.

About 85 percent of equipment of Hualong One reactor, including most key equipment, is independently produced by Chinese equipment manufacturers, said Sui Yongbin, an adviser with China Machinery Industry Federation.

Meanwhile, construction of Hualong One reactor combined the use of Internet in both design and engineering processes as a practice to implement the "Made in China 2025" strategy, which was put up by the State Council in May of 2015.

Internet plus big data would explore further application in future construction of Hualong One reactors, and domestic manufacturers participating in the construction would embrace brand new development era.
