China began construction its most remote offshore wind plant on May 10 in the eastern coastal city of Yancheng, Jiangsu province, according to a report by Thepaper.cn.
Located approximately 28 miles offshore, the Dafeng wind plant will generate power for 500,000 families a year, with a total installed capacity of 300 megawatts, the report said. The plant is expected to help save 239,600 tons of coal a year, as well as eliminate 527,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
The plant will be put into operation in 2019.
