Xinyi Port in Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province is a major bulk cargo terminal on the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal. Driven by the State Grid Xuzhou Power Supply Company, it conducted electrification transformation on more than 600 meters of the coastal line. After 11 shore power systems were installed and put into use, the environment has been greatly improved.
It is just a part of the replacement of electricity energy conducted by the State Grid. It is learnt from the State Grid that it has conducted over 40,000 projects in the replacement of electricity energy in heating, production and manufacturing, transportation, power supply and consumption as well as household electrification. It has replaced 142.8 billion kwh of electricity, which is equivalent to reducing nearly 80 million tonnes of coals in the consumption terminal.
At present, China’s electricity-coal proportion and electrification level is quite low. A great deal of burning of bulk coal and consumption of fuel oil of automobiles and anchored ships are one of the major reason causing severe haze. Eight ministries and commissions jointly pointed out in the guidance on promoting replacement of electricity energy in 2016 that replacing electricity energy is of great significance to advancing energy consumption reform, implementing national energy strategy and pushing forward energy cleaning development.
On May 1, Jiangsu province issued and implemented regulations on Xuzhou port, which included establishment of shore power system for the first time. Many shipowners said frankly that in the past, they used diesel generators to generate power after docking. Fuel oil is expensive but produces huge pollution and noise. The ship is very hot like food steamer in summer but cold like ice cave in winter as they couldn’t turn on high-power electrical appliance like air conditioning. It saves money and is comfortable to use shore power, and environment is also improved greatly.
Replacement of electricity energy is also promoted in fields like industrial manufacturing, agriculture and electric heating in Hebei province. Ge Jun, deputy general manager of State Grid Jibei Electric Power Company, told the reporter that the company invested 2.855 billion yuan to boost power grid construction and enhance consumption of electric energy to ensure common people can use electricity safely.
