BUENOS AIRES, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Argentina unveiled a photovoltaic solar park built with the help of a Chinese company in the western province of San Juan, the president's office said Monday.

The Iglesia-Estancia Guanizuil solar park project, with 287,080 panels and an installed capacity of 80 megawatts, is one of the most important technological projects in the South American country.

Located around 1,400 km northwest of the capital city of Buenos Aires, the park could provide electricity for more than 60,000 homes, the president's office said in a statement.

It is the 14th project of photovoltaic solar technology that has gone into commercial operation since 2016 and the fifth in the province of San Juan, Sebastian Kind, undersecretary of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Argentina's Finance Ministry, said during the unveiling ceremony.

According to figures of the government, there are seven renewable energy projects in the San Juan province with 130 megawatts of capacity installed, representing investments of more than 130 million U.S. dollars.

Argentina has set a goal that 20 percent of its national energy supply will come from renewable and clean source by 2025.
