CANBERRA, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Technology billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes has announced he will invest in creating the world's largest solar farm in the Australian Outback.

Cannon-Brookes, the co-founder of software company Atlassian, recently told the Australian Financial Review (AFR) that he will "shortly" declare how much of his own wealth he will pour into Singaporean company Sun Cable's project which worths about 20 billion Australian dollars (13.5 billion U.S. dollars).

If it goes ahead, power generated by the 15,000 hectare solar farm in the Northern Territory (NT) would be exported to Singapore via a 3,800 km high voltage direct current (HVDC) cable.

"I'm backing it, we're going to make it work, I'm going to build a wire," Cannon-Brookes said.

"This will be absolutely great -- with world-leading engineering required. But we can do it," he said.

The NT's Chief Minister Michael Gunner said that the NT is ideally suited to lead Australia in the renewable energy industry.

"Investing in renewables means more local jobs, and more permanent jobs for Territorians," he told News Corp Australia.
