​Myanmar, China strive to promote bilateral tourism industry development

Tourism authorities from Myanmar and China on Saturday had extensive discussions on further promoting development of bilateral tourism industry.

"Myanmar government has granted visa-on-arrival to Chinese travelers starting from Oct.1 this year to attract more Chinese tourist arrivals in the country and we, the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, will take measures to fill the need for the development of tourism industry in both countries," U Aung Aye Han, deputy director-general of the ministry said at a meeting held at the Yangon International Airport.

Luo Jun, chairman of China Tourism and Service Association in Myanmar, called for efforts in creating safe environment, better service quality as well as upgrading infrastructure as part of efforts to attract more foreign travelers to the country. About 400,000 Chinese travelers annually visit Myanmar.

Also, tourism circles of both countries exchanged views on matters relating to bilateral tourism industry at the meeting.

Meanwhile, International Tourism Expo Myanmar-ITEM 2018 is scheduled for Nov. 2-4 this year in Yangon, jointly organized by Myanmar Tourism Federation (MTF) and Myanmar-China Friendship Association (MCFA), with the aim of promoting development of the country's tourism industry, international tourism service sector as well as attracting international recognition over Myanmar's heritage and beautiful cultural attractions.
