The Signing ceremony of the Agreement on the Cooperation on Projects of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund for Myanmar was held on Friday, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.
The agreement was signed by U Myint Thu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the Ministries that proposed the projects and H.E. Mr. Hong Liang, Ambassador of People’s Republic of China to Myanmar. The ceremony was attended by representatives from respective Ministries and officials.
Mekong-Lancang Special fund of 300 million US dollar was established by China during the Second Mekong-Lancang Foreign Ministers Meeting held in 2016 in Siem Reap, Cambodia. 132 projects were selected for implementation under the Mekong-Lancang Special Fund, of which, 10 projects from Myanmar, 83 from China, 16 from Cambodia, 13 from Laos, 5 from Thailand, and 5 from Viet Nam were selected. The total amount of 2.4 Million US Dollars will be received for 10 selected projects, of which, 1 project is from Ministry of Home Affairs, 1 from Ministry of Transport and Communications, 5 from Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, 1 from Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture and 1 from Ministry of Education.
The Mekong-Lancang Cooperation was established following the initiative put forward by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang at the 17th ASEAN-China Summit held in Myanmar in 2014 to establish a new type of cooperation mechanism among six Mekong-Lancang countries comprised of Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam with an aim of promoting cooperation in the areas of political and socioeconomic development.
