The iron and steel industry in North China's Hebei province saw profits in the first half of 2015 stand at 12.969 billion yuan, down 37.41 percent from a year earlier, statistics show on Tuesday.
In the first half of the year, the province's iron and steel industry gained 574.417 billion yuan of revenue from main business, down 12.08 percent year on year.
The purchasing managers' index (PMI) tracking the province's iron and steel sector stood at 42.1 percent in June, down 9.2 percentage points month on month. The figure was under the 50-percent level demarcating growth from contraction again, showing the severe situation for the province's iron and steel sector, according to the Hebei Metallurgical Industry Association.
In the first half of the year, the province exported 17.532 million metric tons (tonnes) of steel products, accounting for 33.38 percent of the country's total steel exports, up 7 percentage points year on year, data shows.
