Steel social inventories approach year low, association

The social inventories of major steel products continued to fall in September, approaching the lowest record of this year, China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) said on Tuesday.

According to monitoring by CISA, the combined social inventories of five major steel categories stood at 8.9469 million tonnes by mid September, down 2.44 percent from a month ago.

Only hot-rolled coil saw a 1.3-percent growth in social inventories, which rose to 1.7284 million tonnes by mid September. The inventories of rebar steel recorded 3.4912 million tonnes by mid September, down 7.84 percent month on month, a bigger decline than that of other major steel categories, including cold-rolled coil, thick and medium plate and wire rod.
