The most active corn contract for March delivery was down 1.75 cents, or 0.45 percent, to settle at 3.8475 U.S. dollars per bushel. March wheat decreased 4.5 cents, or 0.81 percent, to settle at 5.5 dollars per bushel. March soybeans rose 3.25 cents, or 0.35 percent, to close at 9.4475 dollars per bushel.
Soybeans firmed as traders hoped for improved crop exports to China. Investors' sentiment was lifted by easing tensions over the U.S.-China trade relations after the two countries agreed on the text of a phase-one trade deal last month.
Concerns about tensions in the Middle East following the U.S. killing of an Iranian general weighed on corn and wheat prices, traders said.
