U.S. dollar rose on Tuesday against the British pound after the Brexit vote.

The pound had fallen more than 1 percent against the dollar immediately after British parliament's overwhelming rejection of the Brexit deal on Tuesday. The pound pared some of the losses later as investors saw trimmed possibility of a hard Brexit.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, rose 0.45 percent at 96.0388 in late trading.

In late New York trading, the euro decreased to 1.1400 dollars from 1.1465 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.2836 U.S. dollars from 1.2865 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar decreased to 0.7193 U.S. dollar from 0.7198 U.S. dollar.

The U.S. dollar bought 108.58 Japanese yen, higher than 108.20 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar increased to 0.9881 Swiss franc from 0.9813 Swiss franc, and it increased to 1.3282 Canadian dollars from 1.3267 Canadian dollars.
