U.S. dollar dips amid hopes for reopening economies

NEW YORK, April 27 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Monday as several countries are making plans to reopen their economies from coronavirus-driven lockdowns, bolstering risk appetite.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased 0.34 percent at 100.0446 in late trading.

In late New York trading, the euro rose to 1.0832 U.S. dollars from 1.0797 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.2422 dollars from 1.2351 dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar rose to 0.6465 U.S. dollar from 0.6382 U.S. dollar.

The U.S. dollar bought 107.24 Japanese yen, lower than 107.42 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was up to 0.9755 Swiss franc from 0.9749 Swiss franc, and it decreased to 1.4039 Canadian dollars from 1.4104 Canadian dollars.
