Copper futures traded on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) ended lower on Monday, tracking bearish local equity markets. The Shanghai benchmark copper contract for November delivery closed 1.24 percent lower at 40,620 yuan/metric ton (tonne) on Monday.

On Monday, the Shanghai Composite Index closed down 2.67 percent at 3,114.80. The recent copper showed an uptrend, but the driving force remained weak, say analysts.

Copper traded at the Changjiang Nonferrous Metal Market, a major spot metals market in Shanghai, was quoted at 40,720-41,140 yuan/tonne on Monday, down 205 yuan from the previous trading day.

On Monday, other SHFE base metals also closed lower with the benchmark aluminum, zinc, lead, nickel and tin down 0.12 percent, 1.24 percent, 1.16 percent, 1.60 percent and 1.04 percent, respectively. (Contributed by Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
