Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) agricultural commodities closed lower on Thursday, as investors turned to big technical selling amid China-U.S. trade tensions.

The most active corn contract for December delivery went down 5.75 cents, or 1.57 percent to close at 3.61 dollars per bushel. December wheat delivery fell 3.5 cents, or 0.64 percent to close at 5.4175 dollars per bushel. November soybean delivery dropped 16.25 cents, or 1.87 percent to close at 8.54 dollars per bushel.

CBOT brokers estimate that funds on Thursday have sold 3,400 contracts of soybeans, 5,200 contracts of corn, and 2,000 contracts of wheat. In soy products, funds have sold 2,300 contracts of soy meal while being flat in soy oil.

For the week ending Aug. 16, U.S. private traders have exported 8.8 million bushels of wheat, 48.3 million bushels of corn, and 47.8 million bushels of soybeans, according to weekly export sales report released by U.S. Department of Agriculture Thursday.

For their respective crop years to date, the U.S. has sold 314.4 million bushels of wheat (down 109 million bushels or 26 percent from last year), 2,379 million bushels of corn (up 159 million bushels or 7 percent), and 2,159 million bushels of soybeans (down 72 million bushels or 3.2 percent).
