By the end of May, a total of 85.01 million individual investors had opened A-share accounts, of which 45.64 million held stocks at end-May, according to the latest data released by the China Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation Limited (SD C).
In May alone, 594,023 A-share accounts were opened per day, with 336,903 being active on the Shanghai bourse and 257,120 on the Shenzhen bourse.
A total of 215.79 million new accounts for China A- and B-share trading were opened in May.
The number of newly opened A-share accounts stood at 213.16 million during the period, and the number of A-share accounts that saw transactions totaled 175.28 million.
The number of newly opened B-share accounts totaled 2.63 million.
