Tokyo shares end higher on weaker yen

Tokyo shares ended higher Thursday on the yen's retreat. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 136.79 points, or 0. 67 percent, from Wednesday at 20,600.12.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange jumped 14.42 points, or 0.88 percent, higher to 1,660.83. Gainers were led by utilities, information and communication and other products. The turnover was about 2,458.6 billion yen (about 19.86 billion U.S. dollars).
