Tokyo shares opened higher on Thursday on a weaker yen after a U.S. Federal Reserve policy meeting, as well as on the boost in the overnight U.S. market.
At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 182.01 points, or 0.90 percent, from Wednesday to 20,484.92. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 17.28 points, or 1.06 percent, to 1, 651.22.
