China stocks extended losses at midday on Wednesday amid lingering worries over the economic headwinds. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index plunged 3.12 percent to close at 3,631.4 points. The Shenzhen Component Index dived 2.71 percent to close at 12,340.39.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, slumped 3.07 percent to end at 2,427.19. More than 2,000 shares sank and nearly 30 tumbled by the daily limit of 10 percent. Stocks in foreign trade, transportation and the non-ferrous metal industry led the slump.
