Germany's benchmark DAX index closes down

The benchmark DAX index at Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Monday lost nearly 40 points and closed at 10,259.46 points. Despite the recent fluctuations, investors were confident of the longer term prospect of the DAX index.

However, their confidence seem to be crumbling, according to local analysts. The DAX index lost 39.07 points. Infineon Technologies AG, a semiconductor producer, advanced by 2.11 percent. Fresenius SE ' Co. KGaA, a health care group, added 0.73 percent.

Merck KGaA, a pharmaceutical, chemical and life science company, climbed by 0.29 percent. Allianz SE rose by 0.25 percent and Deutsche Boerse AG went up by 0.21 percent. The two utilities companies RWE AG St and E.ON SE each lost 4. 42 percent and 1.75 percent.

Deutsche Lufthansa AG plunged by 1.59 percent. LANXESS AG, a specialty chemical company, fell by 1.53 percent. Continental AG slipped by 1.2 percent.

The turnover stood at 2.6 billion euros (around 2.91 billion U. S. dollars). Daimler AG was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 196.99 million euros (around 220.26 million U.S. dollars).
