The Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges recorded 199,300 new investors last week (Aug. 31- Sept. 2), down 43 percent from the previous week, according to the latest statistics from China Securities Depository and Clearing Co., Ltd. (CSDC).
A total of 18.76 million investors participated in the trading of A-shares last week, accounting for 20.08 percent of the total A-share accounts, down from 27.79 percent in the week before.
There were only three trading days last week due to a two-day-long public holiday. To some extend it caused the decline in new investors and trading activities. Moreover, investors were less eager to trade amid the recent volatility of China's stock market, according to analysts.
