Hong Kong stocks close 0.27 pct lower

Hong Kong stocks moved down 58. 13 points, or 0.27 percent on Friday to close at 21,504.37 points. The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 21,472.16 and 21, 909.82. Turnover totaled 87.14 billion HK dollars (about 11.24 billion U.S. dollars).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index went down 61.88 points, or 0.63 percent, to close at 9,718.28. Two sub-indices gained ground with the Finance moving up 0.03 percent and the Properties moving up 1.25 percent.

Two sub-indices lost ground with the Utilities ending down 0.21 percent and the Commerce and Industry moving down 1.06 percent.

Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, edged down 0.58 percent to 60.45 HK dollars.

Bank of East Asia, one of the largest local banks in Hong Kong, ended down 0.19 percent to 26.45 HK dollars. Local bourse operator HKEX rose 0.27 percent to 186.30 HK dollars. China Mobile, China's major mobile carrier, moved down 0.16 percent to 91.55 HK dollars, while another Chinese telecom giant China Unicom ended up 0.58 percent to 10.34 HK dollars.

For local property stocks, Sun Hung Kai, one of Hong Kong's largest property developer by market value, ended up 3.93 percent to 103.10 HK dollars.

Hang Lung Properties rose 0.74 percent to 17. 76 HK dollars. New World Development, another major developer in Hong Kong, increased 0.38 percent to 7.86 HK dollars.

As for mainland-based financial stocks, China Construction Bank, the country's second largest bank which accounts for the third largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, moved up 0.93 percent to 5.41 HK dollars. ICBC, the world's largest bank by market value, moved up 2.17 percent to end at 4.70 HK dollars.

Bank of China ended up 2.29 percent to 3.57 HK dollars. As for energy stocks, China's top refiner Sinopec ended down 1. 72 percent to 5.15 HK dollars. PetroChina, the country's largest oil and gas producer, fell 3.85 percent to 5.75 HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollar equals 7.75 HK dollars)
