Hong Kong stocks close 0.3 pct higher

Hong Kong stocks moved up 66.20 points, or 0.3 percent, on Friday at 21,920.83 points, led by property shares that surged after the U.S. Federal Reserve decided not to raise interest rates.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 21,807.25 and 22, 052.11. Turnover totaled 95.53 billion HK dollars (about 12.33 billion U.S. dollars).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index moved up 64.21 points, or 0.64 percent, to close at 10,028.38 points.

Three of the four sub-indices gained ground. The Properties sub- index rose the most at 2.91 percent, followed by the Utilities at 0.65 percent, the Commerce & Industry at 0.07 percent, while the Finance dipped 0.17 percent.

Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, fell 1.31 percent to 60.25 HK dollars.

Bank of East Asia, one of the largest local banks in Hong Kong, moved up 0.94 percent to close at 26.85 HK dollars.

Local bourse operator HKEX grew 0.26 percent to 187.5 HK dollars.

China Mobile, China's dominant mobile carrier, rose 0.43 percent to 92.15 HK dollars.

China Unicom, another Chinese telecom giant, gained 0.19 percent to 10.2 HK dollars.

Local property stocks surged following the U.S. Fed's decision of leaving interest rates unchanged. Sun Hung Kai, one of Hong Kong's largest property developer by market value, rocketed 3.83 percent to 105.7 HK dollars. Henderson Land climbed 3.43 percent to 49.65 HK dollars. CKH Holdings edged down 0.09 percent to 103.6 HK dollars.

Mainland-based financial stocks ended mixed. Bank of China closed down 0.84 percent at 3.54 HK dollars. China Construction Bank went up 0.36 percent to 5.58 HK dollars. Bank of Communication went up 0.7 percent at 5.69 HK dollars. ICBC lost 1. 04 percent to 4.75 HK dollars.

As for energy stocks, China's top refiner Sinopec fell 0.56 percent to 5.25 HK dollars. PetroChina, the country's largest oil and gas producer, grew 0.17 percent to 5.86 HK dollars. CNOOC decreased 0.11 percent to 8.68 HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollar equals to 7.75 HK dollars)
