Tokyo stocks fell 0.68 percent on Thursday as investor sentiment was dampened by weaker-than- expected machinery orders released earlier the day.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 123.84 points, from Wednesday to end the morning at 18,199.14.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 8.01 points, or 0.54 percent, to 1,485.16. Decliners were led by retail, air transport and foods.
