Hong Kong stocks close 2.73 pct higher

Hong Kong stocks continued to soar on Monday, with the benchmark Hang Seng index climbing 743.95 points, or 2.73 percent, to end at 28,016.34 points.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 27,304.12 and 28, 031.96. Turnover totaled 263.64 billion HK dollars (about 34.02 billion U.S. dollars) as fresh cash from mainland investors flooded the market.

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index ended up 602.92 points, or 4.31 percent, to close at 14,590.45.

Two sub-indices lost ground with the Properties moved down 0.17 percent, the Utilities moved down 0.33 percent.

Two sub-indices gained ground with the Finance moved up 4.39 percent, the Commerce and Industry ended up 1.89 percent.

The Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, edged up 1.45 percent to 70.20 HK dollars. Bank of East Asia, one of the largest local banks in Hong Kong, ended up 1.24 percent to 32.60 HK dollars.

Local bourse operator HKEX soared 19.44 percent to 297.40 HK dollars, performing as the best among all blue chips on Monday.

China Mobile, China's dominant mobile carrier, moved up 0.36 percent to 111.00 HK dollars, while another Chinese telecom giant China Unicom moved up 0.88 percent to 13.78 HK dollars.

For the local property stocks, Sun Hung Kai, one of HK's largest property developer by market value, ended down 1.25 percent to 126.50 HK dollars.

As for mainland-based financial stocks, China Construction Bank, the country's second largest bank which accounts for the third largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, bounced 7.75 percent to 7.65 HK dollars. ICBC, the world's largest bank by market value, moved up 5.74 percent with 6.63 HK dollars. Bank of China gained 8.57 percent to 5.45 HK dollars.

As for energy stocks, China's top refiner Sinopec ended up 1.50 percent to 6.79 HK dollars. PetroChina, the country's largest oil and gas producer, ended up 1.12 percent to 10.06 HK dollars. (1 U. S. dollar equals 7.75 HK dollars)
