Hong Kong stocks ended slightly lower on Monday, with the benchmark Hang Seng index falling 9.18 points, or 0.03 percent to end at 28,123.82 points. Turnover totaled 155.58 billion HK dollars (about 20.05 billion U.S. dollars).
The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 28.04 points, or 0. 19 percent, to close at 14,459.15. Three sub-indices gained ground, with the Properties sub-index rising the most by 1.47 percent, followed by the Utility 1.07 percent and the Commerce and Industry 0.36 percent.
The Finance fell 0.78 percent. Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, lost 1.8 percent at 75.60 HK dollars, while its local unit Hang Seng Bank added 1.5 percent to 153.50 HK dollars.
Local bourse operator HKEX fell 0.2 percent at 294.00 HK dollars. Local developers Hang Lung Properties decreased 1.4 percent to 25.30 HK dollars. Henderson Land, another major developer in Hong Kong, climbed 3.7 percent to 64.60 HK dollars, and Cheung Kong Holding, a powerful HK-based developer controlled by billionaire Li Ka-shing, gained 0.6 percent to 169.50 HK dollars.
As for mainland-based financial stocks, China Construction Bank, the country's second largest bank which accounts for the third largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, rose 0.5 percent to 7.59 HK dollars.
ICBC, the world's largest bank by market value, was down 0.7 percent to 6.69 HK dollars. Bank of China retreated 0.8 percent to 5.29 HK dollars. PetroChina, the country's largest oil and gas producer, went up 0.8 percent to 10.04 HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollar equals 7.761 HK dollars)
