Chinese shares dive 6pct on Tue. below 2,800 points

Share prices on the Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses retreated and sank nearly 6.5 percent on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index below 2,800 points, hitting a new low in recent 13 months. Small-caps, especially for those listed on the ChiNext board, plunged more than 7.5 percent on the day. For the whole day, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dived 6.42 percent to end at 2,749.79 points. The Shenzhen Composite Index plunged 7.12 percent to end at 1,714.42 points. The index for small firms tumbled 6.75 percent to end at 6,304.52, and the ChiNext Index sank 7.63 percent to end at 1,994.05. 

Combined turnover of the two bourses expanded to 523.1 billion yuan from 422.9 billion yuan on the previous trading day. 

All listed sectors ended in the negative territory, dragged by internet, software services, medical treatment, securities dealers, daily chemicals, mineral products, natural gas, computer equipment, property, tourism, telecom equipment, aviation devices, and media and entertainment sectors. 

​On the stock index futures market, the IF February contract sank 4.69 percent to end at 2,899.0, keeping a discount of 41.51 points to the underlying Hushen 300 Index, which dived 6.02 percent to end at 2,940.51. The SSE 50 February contract plunged 4.85 percent to end at 1,925.0, keeping a discount of 26.61 points to the underlying SSE 50 Index, which sank 5.51 percent at 1,951.61. The CSI February contract tumbled 6.71 percent to end at 5,401.2, keeping a discount of 188.11 points to the underlying CSI 500 stock index, which plunged 7.48 percent to end at 5,589.31.
