Tokyo stocks opened lower Friday as a lackluster performance on Wall Street overnight saw a dour market mood mirrored in Tokyo.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 12. 51 points, or 0.08 percent, from Thursday to 16,634.15.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, was down 0.49 point, or 0.04 percent, to 1,336.07.
Notable early decliners comprised rubber product, machinery and securities-linked stocks.
