Tokyo shares closed slightly higher Tuesday morning with market concerns eased by a halt in the yen's strength against the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 36.64 points, or 0.22 percent, from Monday to 17,074.27.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 6.48 points, or 0.48 percent, to 1,350. 33.

Gainers were led by oil and coal product, fishery, agriculture and forestry, and insurance issues.
