Hong Kong stocks closed lower on Monday, down 20.27 points or 0.09 percent, to 22,934.54 points. The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 22,775.29 and 23, 045.53.
Turnover totaled 61.91 billion HK dollars (about 7.98 billion U.S. dollars).
The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index moved up 44.07 points, or 0.46 percent, to close at 9,559.39. Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, closed flat at 58.35 HK dollars.
Local bourse operator HKEX added 0.68 percent to end at 205.4 HK dollars. As for other heavyweights, China Mobile climbed 0.73 percent to 88.85 HK dollars. Tencent slumped 1.05 percent to 205.8 HK dollars. Local airline Cathay Pacific rose 1.59 percent to 10.22 HK dollars. CKH Holdings, a powerful HK-based developer controlled by billionaire Li Ka-shing, gained 0.89 percent to 95.95 HK dollars.
Most mainland-based financial stocks closed higher. Bank of China moved up 1.16 percent to 3.48 HK dollars. Bank of Communications added 1.72 percent to 5.91 HK dollars. China Construction Bank closed up 1.42 percent to 5.68 HK dollars. ICBC gained 0.86 percent to 4.67 HK dollars.
As for energy stocks, PetroChina dipped 0.74 percent to 5.34 HK dollars. CNOOC slumped 1.69 percent to 9.87 HK dollars. Sinopec edged down 0.17 percent to 5.65 HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollar equals 7.75 HK dollars)
