Tokyo shares slipped Tuesday on the yen's rise against the U.S. dollar and other major currencies.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 65.93 points, or 0.35 percent, from Monday at 18,910.78.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 4.27 points, or 0.28 percent, lower at 1,516.15.

Decliners were led by transportation equipment, mining and insurance issues.

The day's turnover was about 2,061 billion yen (around 18.41 billion U.S. dollars).
