Tokyo stocks open higher amid yen's retreat against U.S. dollar

Tokyo stocks opened higher on Friday as the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar lifted the market mood and saw exporters advance.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 109.04 points, or 0.55 percent, from Thursday to 19,940.86.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 9.60 points, or 0.60 percent, to 1,597.69. Insurance, machinery and securities-related stocks comprised those that advanced the most in early trade.
