Canadian stock market slumped Monday

Canada's main stock market slumped Monday.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index dipped 166.51 points, or 1.12 percent, to finish the day at 14,721.75 points, the lowest since July 8, 2016.

The Canadian dollar traded at an average of 0.7623 U.S. dollar, the lowest level in nearly seven weeks, in comparison with 0.7629 U.S. dollar last Friday.

On the market, 47 issues rose and 198 fell. There were no new highs and 42 new lows, with a total volume of 275.6 million shares.

The energy group plunged 5.10 points, or 3.02 percent while the financials sector fell 1.38 points, or 0.5 percent.

Aurora Cannabis Inc. nosedived 16.1 percent to 7.70 Canadian dollars, Aphria Inc. plummeted 17.35 percent to 12.77 Canadian dollars, and HEXO Corp. dipped 8.28 percent to 5.32 Canadian dollars.

Baytex Energy Corp fell 6.81 percent to 2.60 Canadian dollars while Manulife Financial Corp. declined 1.44 percent to 19.86 Canadian dollars.

Bombardier Inc. rose three cents to 3.12 Canadian dollars.
