Chinese stocks closed lower Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.04 percent to 2,464.36.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.84 percent lower at 7,089.44.
The combined turnover of stocks in the two indices stood at 252.2 billion yuan (about 36.7 billion U.S. dollars), up from 226.3 billion yuan the previous trading day.
Most shares lost, with losers outnumbering gainers 741 to 585 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,215 to 784 on the Shenzhen bourse.
Liquor maker were among the heaviest losers. Kweichow Moutai lost 1.5 percent, while Luzhou Laojiao shed 3.71 percent.
Electrical home appliance producers also slumped, with Zhejiang Supor plunging 7.61 percent.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board, lost 1.16 percent to close at 1,214.5.
