Hong Kong shares up 1.70% by midday,Chinese shares close higher by midday

Hong Kong stocks gained 448.24 points, or 1.70 percent, to close Tuesday's morning session at 26,746.57 points.

Chinese shares close higher at midday

China's major stock indices ended higher in the morning session Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.96 percent at 2,560.17 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index rose 1.28 percent to end at 7,504.15 points at midday.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, went up 1.15 percent to 1,260.35 points in the morning session Tuesday.

The ChiNext Index, together with the Shenzhen Component Index and the Shenzhen SME (small and medium-sized enterprises) Board Index, are major indices reflecting the performance of stocks listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.

The ChiNext Board, which started trading on Oct. 30, 2009, mainly lists high-tech companies and those with high growth potential.

Tokyo stocks bounce back in morning on dip-buying

Tokyo stocks bounced back Tuesday morning on hopes for further positive earnings in the financial sector in the United States, with investors snapping up domestic issues on the cheap following their earlier retreat.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 184.94 points, or 0.91 percent, from Friday to 20,544.64.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 12.17 points, or 0.80 percent, to 1,541.90.

Precision instrument, miscellaneous product and securities house-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.

Markets here were closed on Monday for a national holiday.
